They also put together this uber-robust report, SendGrid’s Global Email Benchmark Report, based on the billions of emails that are sent each day—creating one of the most accurate reports about email engagement in the industry.
In addition to producing high-quality content, their team also collaborated to crush the distribution game, promoting through emails, blogs, a press release, Twitter campaigns, follow-up interviews, webcasts, and video. That’s one huge content pillar if you ask us!
Obtaining information about your audience isn’t always easy (or fun). That’s why SnapApp created Content Land, an engagement survey coupled as a quest, which uses interactive content to deliver relevant information to prospects. This was part of an integrated marketing campaign that crossed several channels and combined both their content and demand gen teams. They then captured behavioral data on the people who engaged with the advertisement, fed it into the system, and were able to narrow down the target audience to focus on only those most likely to click. They were also able to see what their interests were, how they interacted with digital content, and what messages might resonate with them best. Talk about knowing your audience.
The results have been fed back into their AO algorithm and are being used to refine the product for even better ROI. Through this experiment, they’ve nailed how content, creative, and targeting play a vital role in successful digital campaigns—something we all could get better at!

They also listen to their users, utilizing research tactics and creative content to position themselves as true thought-leaders. One of their customers’ top concerns, which they discovered through persona research, was ransomware—a malicious software that can block access to your computer system until you pay a sum of money (yikes).
They leveraged content to educate their users on how they can detect and combat ransomware. Through an eBook, comprehensive guide, infographic, webinar, and a handful of blog posts, they not only garnered $1.5M in their opportunity pipeline, but also undoubtedly kept their customers feeling secure.
CSC, an IT services company, is an awesome example of a team who underwent some big market changes and responded with a killer content strategy. When the IT outsourcing market shifted, CSC took on a massive digital transformation to retool itself for the new realities of its industry. When the dust settled, the company reasserted its identity with content.

The key takeaways for them? Cross-team collaboration and integration is key to pulling off a successful campaign.

Invoca, a software company for call tracking and analytics, is a rockstar example of a team who moved to an account-based marketing (ABM) approach and saw some pretty awesome results. Their team focuses on targeting using content based on where prospects are in the funnel, while ensuring consistent messaging across channels. They also target specific accounts further down the funnel. They use technologies like Marketo and Terminus to create hyper-personalized email and display campaigns that work in concert with offline touchpoints like direct mail and SDR outreach.
Hungry for more? Look no further than Invoca’s 2016 Call Intelligence Index campaign, which was based on analytics of over 50 million customer phone calls. They worked with their Business Intelligence team to collect the data, and then analyzed, wrote, and managed the design of a beautiful report and arsenal of derivative content, including this infographic. If this doesn’t light up your B2B content marketing hearts, we don’t know what will.
2016 was the year of agile marketing for IntelliMagic. Through agile, they created better content, faster, and scaled their content marketing automation. With a lean team of three full-time employees and one contractor, they lived out the very definition of agile with “experiment, test, evaluate, and iterate”—applying it externally to their marketing channels, and internally to team project management.
Shifting to agile marketing resulted in some serious gains along with valuable lessons. To name just a few interesting examples, they doubled the number of emails sent per month while increasing click-through rate by 62%. They also shifted focus to creating more landing pages, and saw a 342% increase in page views—plus a 565% increase in form completions. Talk about some crazy growth. Still, one of their biggest learning lessons is that to increase leads, they need to increase the specificity and decrease the length of content to help with search results. In this example, less really is more.
Infor builds beautiful business applications with finish-line functionality and scientific insights. They utilize content to increase MQL scores, build brand awareness, fuel forward their edgy messaging (ahem, software companies can be edgy), and target specific industries to pull people down the funnel. Specifically, their Solutions Marketing team leverages LinkedIn’s direct sponsored content program to crush their targeting game in concert with their go-to-market campaigns. They also house a hefty blog that helps answer questions we all have, like What Do MY Customers Want? If the answer is “content that is relevant to me,” then Infor has pretty much nailed it.
Let’s talk referrals. When it comes to B2B marketing, referrals can be enormously important, as LinkedIn notes, 84% of B2B decision makers start their buying process with a referral. Influitive ran with this, realizing that traditional marketing messages and techniques are susceptible to hitting a wall, as buyers tune out noise and look to their peers.
Influitive’s Director of Customer and Advocate marketing, Truman Tang, set—and wildly achieved—his goal to drive over 1,000 referrals to Influitive. The foundation for his success began in aligning the marketing, sales, and customer success departments across the company. This was a serious endeavor, and a critical one.: Overall, their team used referrals to their benefit, so far seeing higher conversion rates, shorter sales cycles, and greater customer lifetime value.
Leave it to IBM, a global technology software and consulting company, to push the envelope on innovative ideas and engaging experiences through content. IBM MobileFirst, IBM’s enterprise mobility solutions arm, creates engaging in-person and digital client experiences that positions their brand as an innovative mobile thought-leader. The team uses an agile marketing process and virtual collaboration tools to accelerate the planning and execution of client engagement, conference presence, and social surround activities.

As a result of their team’s efforts, the strategy led to a 490% increase in video views. Not too shabby, if you ask us.
Datavail is the largest database services (DBA) provider in North America, which means they’re dealing with a lot of people. While they provide great solutions, technologies, and enterprise support for their customers, they also empower them with a hefty resource library of blog posts, infographics, webinars, white papers and more. For starters, check out 4 Webinars That Will Make Your DBAs Smarter, which breaks down the technical jargon into an educational and accessible read. Their content ops game is off the charts, too. They produce one white paper a week. In their own words: “We truly have a content machine!”
For this full-circle marketing agency, DCustom found that incorporating alignment and efficiency into their content marketing strategy led to further success when delivering on business goals. In our humble opinion, Dun & Bradstreet’s motto, “grow relationships through data,” should also included “and content.” By unifying their entire marketing team to better align their content strategy with all of their marketing initiatives, this integrated marketing powerhouse broke down major silos. The results? Maximum engagement through their various channels, along with better metrics to quickly learn what’s working as they plan future content initiatives.
They’ve nailed the content lifecycle, too. To ensure their content is discovered by their targeted prospects, they have weekly kick-off meetings to discuss planned content, while their digital experts weigh-in with best practices. Embracing the concept “build measure learn,” Eventbrite moves quickly to execute, distribute, and analyze their content while rapidly iterating to drive sustainable growth.

At first glance, you might not think a shipping company has any business in content. Think again. The brilliant FedEx marketing team leveraged a super sharp content plan to launch a new product, resulting in a huge influx of sales and revenue.
The FedEx Freight® box is a product that introduces a simplified and affordable way for customers to ship stuff with a flat-rate box. Sounds great, right? But even the most helpful of products are useless unless there’s a smart marketing plan in place. The team went to work, launching an interactive freight box landing page on the FedEx Small Business Center, as well as several supporting assets. Formed in October 2015, GE’s software business provide customers with the industrial solutions and software needed to solve real-world problems—and leverages fantastic content based on its cutting-edge data and expertise.
In nine short months, marketers at GE Digital produced powerhouse content, centralizing over 1,500 assets, while also creating unique workflows and custom fields to support their metadata structure. Jason also spent time as a consultant at AlixPartners focusing on cash management and turnaround situations. Jason graduated from Boston College with a B.S. in Finance and Information Systems and has an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
Riley is the VP of Product at Kapost, leading all product strategy. Prior to joining Kapost, Riley co-founded Napkin Labs, a SaaS company that enabled brands to crowdsource rich content from targeted influencer communities. Napkin Labs customers included Nike, Whole Foods, and Sony. Riley also worked as a consultant at The Sterling-Rice Group working with clients including PepsiCo and Kraft.
Nader is the co-founder and CTO of Kapost, managing the product and development of Kapost. Nader co-founded Kapost in late 2009. Prior to Kapost, he co-founded Tamale Software in 2002. Tamale pioneered the Research Management Solution industry for the Financial Services sector and was acquired by Advent Software in 2008. Prior to Tamale, Nader had technology roles at i-drive.com and Microstrategy, Inc. Nader lives in Boulder with his wife and two sons.
Toby is the co-founder and CEO of Kapost, managing the strategy and messaging of Kapost. Toby co-founded Kapost in late 2009, after co-founding and successfully selling Qloud, a social music service that allowed 25M users to share their musical identity and discover music from friends. Toby has also worked at Ruckus and AOL. Toby lives in Boulder, CO with his wife and three daughters.
